Who is the most inspirational coach in wrestling?

Boach Clack. Hands down. His sweatervest style and giggly guffaw make his team compete at the highest level.

Additionally, earlier this year Boach went through some tough times. He lost to me in NCAAs, and didn't take it well. He sunk into a deep depression, and had a tough time recovering his trademark giggle. He started wearing ratty sweatervests and stopped making his hissing sound whenever he would shoot. Lucky for him, I went back to school after Christmas, and he was able to beat up on mere mortals once again. Now Boach is back in true form--as inspiring as ever.

This week, Hat Town friends, win one for Boach.

Coach Vogel of Clearwater High School has been an inspiration to me of late. He's had two trips to the emergency room this year, one including an ambulance, and he's still practicing with his athletes. After hurting his back, and busting open his head, which needed 9 stitches on the outside and 3 on the inside to repair a torn muscle, he's still willing to work with the wrestlers and risk injuring himself again. Coach Johnson, also of Clearwater has also been somewhat of an inspiration. After pulling most of the interior ligaments and muscles in his knee, he's pushing back surgery so that he can still wrestle with the guys as well.

If we go out of the state lines and onto the college level it would have to be Ron Mirikitani, he has survived being in an internment camp during WWII (he's japanese-american) and is in the Wrestling and Martial Arts Hall of Fames. His son was nearly killed in a crash with his grandchild, but they survived. Very spiritual man who has overcome a lot in life, and helps recruit wrestlers from rough backgrounds to give them a chance at the next level.

Coach Vander Linden is a very good coach, and he likes hugs. Especially in seed meetings.

Being a former student of Wayne Jackson (Ark City)I am a little biased but take into account his accomplishments and this season. Last year the bulldogs finished 10th and with minimal additions they're in contention for another state title, that's inspiration. A side note, if you try to hug him he'll punch yah!!

Bill Christner, Abilene. What a nice guy who had some great teams at Abilene and what I know of Bill he is just a class act.

Kit Harris from Baldwin would win this hands down, and he has brought up some fine wrestlers as well as being an all around, positive coach and leader. Coach DeWitt from Eudora is also a great coach, posive thinker and great leader.

How about Coach Sheldon at Valley Center? He must be doing something right. Last I heard he had around 50 kids in his wrestling room most nights. OR perhaps they all join just to take part in the Official Pillow Brawlers club. They get pretty mean in those pillow fights before tourneys.

Coach hartshorn from piper is a very good coach, we just need to get more kids out. He and coach morgan are great coaches.

Medrano is a great guy and good coach, Robison don't kno much about and oh yeah that one guy that quit at Ft. Hays?

Coach Frohling from russell is one of the greatest coaches out there he is one hell of a guy

I would have to say Coach David Nigg at Wichita South. He coached me and now I have spent the last two years as an assistant under him. I am making my move up to the big leagues of head coaching next year and I can only hope that I can motivate those kids 1/2 of what he does. I remember feeling like I could run through a brick wall under that guy. Have that grey headed old man (he was gray at 20 by the way and is not as old as he looks), had to of made the difference in so many matches over his 30 year tenure as the head coach.

however, I believe Coach Shelton of Valley Center is another great coach the brings the most out of his wrestlers. Those kids love him to death and would jump through hoops of fire covered in gasoline for him.

I don't believe there is a #1 most inspirational coach. There are many.
Jody Thompson and Joe Renfro of L.C.C, Cody Bickley of FHSU, Eric Prichard at Wichita N.W., Billy Ross of Derby, Wayne Jackson of Ark City, Segovia of Garden City, and the list goes on and on. It's a special group of people who really care about wrestling. Hell they earn about .50 cents an hour coaching, so it's not for the money.
