Another great match was the Finals at state int the 171 class between Shawn Silvis(Augusta) and Shaun Moore(Sante Fe Trail)...I think it was like 5-2 or something like that......Also does anyone remember the Scott Spear(Scott City) vs Matt Wiesharr in the 215 class Finals?

I think you mean Gerrad Spear from Scott City. I also remember him and Luke Lang wrestling in the finals it was likt 22-11 or somthing like that. Most highest scored match i ever saw in the finals. And also The Long vs. Tillman match was good long was behind by like 8 points or so in the state finals through him in a headlock and got a Fall.

Let's change it up a bit. What are some of the best state brackets you've ever seen? I'm mostly a 5a and 6a guy, but all around the state there have been great brackets. I remember Garcia/Baldrige/Knox a couple of years back, Boehning(?) from Maize may have been in it too. Knox beat Garcia in the semi's which I believe is Garcia's lone state loss, and lost to Baldrige in the finals.

Bobby Krause (29-3) NR
Alvin Metcalf (33-4) FS

Jumping back to best match I've seen this year...today in the backside of the bracket to get into the quarters It was a rematch of a week ago between Terry Schoby of Abilene, and Anthony Westby of Chapman...Westby was pinned last time out by Schoby, but this would be a see saw battle... Westby immediantly went in lifted Schoby and took him to his back. 5-0 Westby...but late in the match Schoby was able to get a wild leverage in a scramble and put Westby to his back...Westby gets out and some how the two manage a few more reverses, and escapes on each other. Westby fights off a tough Schoby onslaught to win 15-12! Great match.

Church Sr. Great memory on the Robbie match. The Bixby crowd booed the Central Kansas team the entire afternoon after that match.

I think one of the most impressive 1-3 was 135 in 1995 with Britt Madison, Chris Tillman and Joe Renfro. I believe 5 state championships between the 3 of them. The only let down was how bad Hankins beat Madison in the Senior duals.

Going along with Silvis I can't remember which year it was, but when he beat Josh Brown from Columbus in the finals, that was pretty exciting. It might have been because his family was right behind me.

One last one pops to mind. The last second of the Molloy vs. Myers at 103 in 1994.

If you ever have a Silvis sitting behind you, it is a treat...his mom yells and gets into every match. It was fun getting to know them for the last couple of years. Noting that Shaun Moore's name was mentioned as well, I saw him about a year ago being a bouncer in Emporia...some guy got up in his grill and he shot a double and knocked the guy on his arse!

His mom is/was very cool. I actually took a class in college with her and got to go over that match in detail.

Sweazy - Two bad wrestlers regardless of how many times they put themselves on there back, does not constitute a good match. They suck man. We are lookin for a match between two guys that have a shot a something good... a state title. You think you could have found a better match to talk about, such as the Gililand and Zuzas match which was 10 times the match than Schoby and Westby but more than half the points.

so are you also saying that anybody that ended up on the backside of the bracket at regionals isn't worth mentioning, because Sharpe of Colby(I think) and Irivine of Chapman were kicking some butt vs. each other...I guess I judge a good match by a match that is good. I could care less if it means a state title...Hell, some state title matches suck! It's about entertainment, and great competition regardless the individuals....that's like saying a jv match between two guys can't be good because they are JV! That's assinine!

Dear The_Great_One:

The wrestler from Kapaun who defeated Charles Knox is Justin Johnson.

Dear the great one:

Why would a person get so much pleasure from the misfortune of a high school boy. Knox is a wrestler who made some bad judgements. This won't be the last mistake he makes I'm sure. In my 60 years I have made more than one or two. Hope he learns from this and moves on to succeed in his life's work. You might ask yourself why you would let his misfortunes make you such a happy camper.

Amen to that KSGRM. This is at least the third subject the the *great* one has posted something derogatory about Knox. Makes you wonder what Knox did to piss him off so bad.
