The new 321A rankings are now posted: Hack away at your beloved ranker dude! Seriously, if you have any information to improve them, let me know.

Harry why don't you give 6a a try you seem to be very punctual with your love for abuse, at least then we would know who to beat on. The 6a guy has seem to gone into hiding.

Coaches here is the lastest "top 10" list.
Rankings have been adjusted to have only 4 kids per regional ranked in the top 16. And becuase of the incredible talent in the "B" regional this year the rankings pan out very unusual. For example:
1 Atwood Jeff Horinek 215 3 Belleville Chance Mitchell 215
7 St. Francis Gabe Walz 215 10 Lincoln Derek Vonada 215
17 Hill City Tyler Brack 215 17 Hoxie Tim Erwin 215
17 Minneapolis Randy Torres 215 17 Phillipsburg Clayton Holsinger 215
17 Plainville A. J. Garcia 215 17 Stockton Chris Pulic 215

Only 4 of these boys go to state. Many of them have beaten ranked kids ahead of them. There are several weight like this. Anyway, PLEASE take some time to go through these and let me know what we can do to make them more accurate.
Thanks for your help!!
Harry

1. Hoxie 82. 2. Norton 64, 3. Oberlin 48, 4. Oakley 43, 5. Silver Lake 41, 6. St. Francis 40. 7. Atwood 34, 8. West Elk 29, 9. Herington 27, 10. Smith Center 22

2,2 means that they placed in state 2nd twice.
0-2 means they were 0-2 at state last year.

Is the Niehues kid from Onaga related to the 149lb FHSU wrestler that has been upsetting a lot of good Nationally ranked wrestlers?

Also, Coach LaMar....is someone going to fix the link for team and individual rankings...it would make it a helluva lot easier.

"Top 10 List" ????? But maybe not the best 10 kids per weight, since only 4 kids per regional assignment !!

Why are the 321A "rankings" being "adjusted" so that no more than four wrestlers from the same regional are being ranked in the top ten? Something smells about this.

who cares about being ranked? when it comes to regionals, as far as seeding goes, there's record of course and who won last head to head competition among some other small details/criteria then of course the crazy sometimes insane offthewall logic that coaches use to get the best seed. heck if your good it doesnt really matter where your placed on the bracket. however, as soon as you rodney dangerfield your opponet your going to get beat...

It is true, these rankings have NOTHING to do with seeding for regional tournaments, (the criterion for which is spelled out in the KSHSAA Wrestling Handbook--a coach's "...insane... logic" should not have anything to do with seeding decisions for regional tournaments) and ultimately the rankings mean nothing because it is supposedly decided on the mat.

What IS important about the rankings is that it shows relative strength of the different parts of the state (as measured by Coaches' opinions) and therefore relative strength of the regionals. Secondly, it is important to the wrestlers as it is no small reward for their hard work and sacrifice.

To decide, arbitrarily it seems, that there are no more than four rankable wrestlers in each region is an injustice to the wrestlers (and their coaches) all across the state. It also arouses some suspicion that the underlying reason for this equalizing procedure might be to "camouflage" the disparity in depth of quality and quanity among the 321A regionals.

IMHO

Why would you rank anybody in the top 6 that will not make it to state. Cover up, masking?? Come on, we do a job the best we can to give our best kids a little recongnition.

If anybody has criteria for an athlete to be ranked just let me know, and I will take a look at it.

Perhaps an explanation of the criteria that was used to decide that no more than four per regional be ranked is in order.

Rankings are supposed to show (I thought) who the best wrestlers (as determined by coach's opinion) are in each weight in the state--regardless of where they live.

Only 4 kids from a regional qualify for state. Only 4 kids from a regional have an opportunity to place at state. The rankings predict state placers. If you know of anybody that should be ranked ahead of a currently ranked wrestler let me know.

BLU,

I do not know why you think anyone is trying to make the regionals appear more evenly dispersed. In Harry's original post, he even made the comment on how the B region was so strong and made the rankings unusual. I do not think that you will find one person that follows 321A wrestling that will disagree that Norton is the toughest regional by far. There are many quality kids in other regions, but up and down the weight classes, Norton has the toughest overall brackets.

If you have a better way of doing the rankings, you are free to do your own and post them on here. Coach LaMar takes his own time and compiles all the available info to put together his rankings. The top 16 are the predictions as to who will be at State. I do not agree with all of them, but as the Regionals play out, I am sure you will find that he is more correct than not. Since you appear to be an expert on who should be ranked where, please, let me see your rankings for all weights and then give me your predictions for the 16 wrestlers that will be at State.

I beleive at 152 the #4 and #10 have been both beaten by a kid from Minneapolis. I not sure if this means anything but thought you might like to know.
