As this season is over, I'm thinking about next season. One of my goals is to go up a weight class or two, gaining some strength. This may be other peoples goals also and am wondering if anybody's wrestling team has a good weightlifting program for the summer or anytime. I'm trying to get a few ideas so I can make a routine in combination with my teams lifting program. I'm sure everybody would benifit from this post so put up some lifts and routines.

Do push-ups, pull-ups, and squats.

ONEagle--Do whatever your jerk football team does in the summer. That seems to work quite well.

Jerks.

Going up a weight class or two is very difficult.
Its more dependant on genetics in the short run more time needed to overcome.

Any full body workout routine will work, have you lifted consisentently before? If not everything is based on your ONE Rep Max. you need know this to mark progress, motivation and when to increase lifting weight. etc.

Also so as not to waste your time start now continue thru wrestling season changing your routine as nescessary.

There several good websites

Yea I have been able to stick with a program, though I stopped when I was trying to lose weight for this season.

and also our lift program for our fb team is ok, but to many people reach a wall and can't get past it, (no variety) But 6A football is now open for the taking since we moved down to 5a.

There is a good weightlifting progam called strength and conditioning located on 151st and Murlen in Olathe. The phone number there is 913-768-4660 the coaches name is Boris Urman, he is a good coach and he pushes hard.

He helped my son alot this past summer which paid off this year.

I would go to the guy that trained Chino Elsrode. I heard his trainer was a former olympian.

Thats the same guy. He was not an Olympian, he was an assistant for the Soviet team back in the early 70's. He is training a girl there right now that just broke the 20-under record at Nationals, and she's 14. Others wrestlers he has worked with are, Jimmy Ball and Matt Crystal. Daniel only went there a couple of months. If thats who your talking about? Who is this Cheeno Guy?

Regardless of whether or not they "hit the wall," I think that wall is probably higher than you would ever reach, if you only do it from now until wrestling season.

Plus, that must be a pretty buff wall.

Jerks.

year round lifting, you reach a point where you just don't get anymore gains and since they never change the program (in the many years they've used it, probably longer). Are football team just has good drills and practices and some good coaches, but yea they are pretty big. I didn't stop in the season, just the last month when it was really starting to get hard losing weight.

That might br Steve Javrak he is was wieghtlifting coach at Johnson County College
Excellent routines for variety that may help gain
weight. He uses alot of dumbells good for wrestling.

Diet keep it simple, and cheap you don't need protein drinks, energy bars etc. For breakfat eat min. four eggs, after lifting within 5 minutes drink 16oz of milk. for supper eat min. one lb. of lean gound beef grilled on BBQ with smashed potatos. If this isn't enough just eat more of the same. Keep sugar to a min. Carbs only from breads and potatos.bagels are good too.

Rule of thumb the harder you work out the more ready your body is to use protein correctly its the only thing that builds muscle. The milk stops the catabolic activity (muscle brakdown from working out).

You should be able vary your weights enough to get you over the wall maybe a work out partner that makes you compete.Might try adding or taking weights off each set.

The place that cntsdad is talking about is not a gym it is more like a weight training facility, there are I think 10 stations. The coach's name is Boris Urman and the number there is 913-768-4660. He is open from 6:00pm to 8:pm Monday - Thursday, Friday 4:00pm to 6:00pm and Sat. 10:00am to noon. He will let you come in and check it out to see if it is something for you and you do not have to sign any contracts unlike Gold’s Gym or Prairie Life. He is very demanding and a hard nose coach, does not put up with any bull. This is same person that trained Chino Elsrode for the summer months before the wrestling season.

If you want to get stronger and quicker he is definitely the person who will help you get there.

You need to change up Sets and Reps, also do some heavy days and than do same lifts, reps and sets but back off on weight as a recovery time. The explosive lifts are great for your power and explosiveness, but you as a wrestler had better be doing a lot of pull exercises. Plus shoulders, biceps and neck. Seemed to work pretty well for my son!

Im willing to give a few lessons.... If anyone saw me senior yr at 119, they would know that my body itself is enough credibility to give nonlicensed weightlifting lessons.

If you really want to get big, you should probably come to Fitness Week with Dingbat and myself, held April 3-12. Knowledge of 80s hair bands and Avril Lavigne songs are a requirement, as are funny lifting shirts (preferably sleeveless Mozart shirts) and a bad habit of forming crazy pit stains.

AE Gym shirts, shirts purchased sleeveless, bandanas and camo of any kind will not be tolerated.
