Please note that my earlier placer count for Norton was incorrect; I had counted wrong--there were NOT 52 of 56 places, but 44 of 56 Norton qualifiers medaled (see below). I apologize for this earlier inaccuracy.

The CORRECTED Norton regional percentage of State medals won is as follows:

1/2 = 18 of 28 65%
3/4 = 15 of 28 53%
5/6 = 11 of 28 39%

To determine the relative rankings of each of the four 321A regionals, the following system was used: a regionals' first place medalist was awarded six points, second received five and so on through sixth which was one point.

Norton Regional: 168 points
1st =10; 2nd =8; 3rd =5; 4th = 10; 5th=7;6th=4

Hoistington Regional: 49 pts
1st=0; 2nd=4; 3rd=4; rth=1; 5th=3; 6th=1

Easton Regional: 49
1st=1; 2nd=2; 3rd=4; 4th=2; 5th=4; 6th=3

Hesston Regional: 28
1st=1; 2nd=0; 3rd=1; 4rh=1; 5th=0; 6th=3

Hey Boss:
Get your facts straight if you're going to talk numbers! If you look at your breakdown you only have 12 1st place medals being awarded. I believe that there are still fourteen weight classes. And who did you short? The (weak) Hesston regional had three state champs, not one. Another fact is that they are all underclassmen.

Yep--sorry on the miscount. However, the rest of the information, including the point total of 28 for the Hesston Regional, is correct.

What does the fact that the three Hesston Regional champions are underclassmen have to do with anything? Several of the champions were underclassmen, as they are every year.

One other fact that was not included earlier:
The top five pacing teams and eight of the top ten were from the Norton Regional.

The percentage of State medals won by wrestlers from the Norton Regional is as follows:

1/2 = 18 of 28 65%
3/4 = 15 of 28 53%
5/6 = 11 of 28 39%

To determine the relative rankings of each of the four 321A regionals, the following system was used: a regionals' first place medalist was awarded six points, second received five and so on through sixth which was one point.

At 125 didn't Weatherbee come out of the Hoisington regional?

Courtney,

You are correct! The regional "homes" of the placers at 125 should have read three from the Norton Regional and three from the Hoisington Regional; zero from Hesston.

ThanKs--you did a real good job this weekend placing 6th at 160. Congratulations.

This may have been one of the most unbalanced regionals in my 20+ years of watching. There is obviously a competitive imbalance between NW Kansas and everyone else. Not just this year but every year. The way things are done need to be changed! Athletes, parents and fans are getting robbed. Also do not tell me about "whining". Pretty much total domination by wrestlers from the NT regional. Think about the good kids from there that got beat out. How bad would the domination have been (team wise) if the top 5 teams had not all been at the same regional.

WHAT IF....

...a proposal to eliminate regionals altogether, have a 64 man state tournamnent.....that way everyone has a shot at the title....no more worring about getting eliminated from tough regionals....

..not that it would ever happen...it wouldnt...

as far as KSHSAA is concerened, it aint broke, so its not going to get fixed...

Think of the money lost to KSHAA (saved by wresters, school systems, and families) if you could emininate the trip to regional and go direct to state! this would also be possible in 5a-6a, with only 32 max possible participants, but you could do it with 123 and 4 as well, just be a bigger deal. Tuffenuff2, great idea, too bad the KSHAA is so inflexible to any change that is not their idea.
