No, Schoolboys are not eligible for Cadets...unless the rule has been changed by USA Wrestling recently.

Kit is correct, and the rules have not been changed.

OHara isnt very good at folkstyle either, but I here he is pretty popular with the ladies.

I would put money on OHara in any style,but im not sure about the ladies?????

Could of sent some guys up just for the seating points, top 3 are automatic qualifiers for Fargo but they also give their dual teams points for seeding to get us in a good pool and allow us to wrestle the right teams at the right time.

Chase Nelson is a Cadet. He turned 16 in March.

I don't understand how you can put somebody on the daul team that hasn't put a day into wrestling during the off-season. I believe that we do want to have the best team, however how can you put a person on the team that didn't compete at the state tournament?

There is no perfect solution for the dual team selection. This year we held state much earlier than ever before which put it in conflict with baseball, track, golf, prom, graduations, etc. It is hard to have a black and white selection process if you want the best wrestlers possible. I think a three day prep camp complete with wrestle offs might be the best way. You can only get invited to the camp if you been in the top 3 of any of the four or five FS/GR spring events. Any other suggestions?

I guess we could use Southern Plains Camp and tournament for a team qualifier. Naaahh someone would complain!

Yes Gabe, I am interested in who you are referring to and if you have a better system to select team members?
For the last 4 years that I have been in charge of the cadet Dual Team, I have had the 1st place person automatic qualifier for the team, which it was not like that before and I do not believe it is like that for our Junior team or many other Cadet/Junior teams for other states. I have done this to try and boost the numbers to our state tournament. It is very frustrating when I do not have much to choose from and yet still try to have a quality team that can obtain All-American status which we have done since the beginning in 2000.
Now I am not all about Winning and nothing else, but we don't step on the mat to get humilated and lose either.
I wish we could get more kids to wrestle Greco and Freestyle, but I try to be fair and if you have a better idea, bring it!
Or are you another person who likes to complain about politics but yet is to lazy to vote.

Coach Peterman - Taylor can fill your 112 spot if needed and probably wouldnt hurt his feelings either. He'll have to work fairly hard himself to get to 105. He'll be at 112 for Southern Plains and will learn alot about whether he can compete with some of the top wrestlers at 112 or not with Casey Lynn and Damien Hopper both in the bracket as well. Visit with him at S. Plains if you would and let him know.

That may be a plan to look at and have Ruiz and Solis wrestle both styles if they can. Let's see how Southern Plains goes and will talk, see you in Hays.

I understand that the boys spent about 3 hours yesterday working on both offense and defense from Par Terre ... it showed!!

Clint Solis, Taylor Moeder, Bryce Hood, and Cody Shavlik all turned tight matches or matches they were losing into wins!

Tommy Williams, Ryne Cokeley and Patrick Cervantes all looked very impressive in their bouts.

As reported, next is a very tough Minnesota!!

After Minnesota we will have Delaware and Idaho!

It is far from a certainty but one would think we stand a great chance of placing in the top 2 in the pool!!

Against Minnesota we had some early wins by Tommy Williams, Taylor Moeder and Daniel DeShazer.

After Ryne Cokeley's match at 125#'s the team score was knotted at 14. Bryce Hood lost to arguably the best wrestler in the arena, in Minnesota's Dylan Ness. Parker Madl had a spirited match but ended up losing in 3-periods, 3-0, 2-3, 1-3. (a couple of his points given were on questionable leg fouls)

Chase Sanchez and Chase Nelson both won but those were the last victories in this dual for Team Kansas. We lost, 28-43.

Next up is Delaware!

Whew ... that was closer than it should have been!!!

In spite of the best efforts of the coaching staff and the fans at matside, the Team was not into this dual until it was almost too late!

We lost the first five matches of our dual with Delaware. Daniel DeShazer and then Ryne Cokeley had convincing wins. Bryce Hood lost and the team score was 12-19.

A dramatic win by pin by Cody Shavlik narrowed the gap to 17-19. After a loss by Sanchez another pin by Chase Nelson put us ahead, 23-22.

A loss by Baughman was followed by a huge win by Jake Akin and perhaps a bigger win by Devon Keith! Then to Joshua Bush. Bush scored off of 5 consecutive push-outs and quickly worked for the pin!!

Leo Beck's loss by pin made the score ... a dicey, 34-32, but a pin by Lucas Vincent closed the deal.

After Devon's big win at 171, we had a 35-24 lead. Unfortunately, Joshua Bush and Leo Beck were pinned and Lucas Vincent lost a 2-4, 05 decision.

Next will be Missouri who is losing big to Wisconsin! Perhaps this is the year we will get the better of our neighbors!!

Missouri is next. I'll be gone for that match. Wow, that match was ours...

Another tough loss! Score, 36-39.

We were ahead after the 160-pound win by Jake Akin. We lost 3 straight matches before a win by Lucas Vincent.

We battled tough though after digging an early hole. After the first four matches, we trailed, 5-13. Our only points were won at 91-pounds where Missouri forfeited the weight. We followed that up with four consecutive wins by Moeder, DeShazer, Cokeley and Madl ... the score, Kansas 19, Missouri 16.

Shavlik lost a close bout to Kaleb Friedley of Missouri. Chase Nelson won with a fall.

As is always the case with dual competitions, especially close duals, one wonders about all the little things. There are many opportunities in a match where a coach or a wrestler can earn or save a single point. But that is the nature of the beast!!
