Junior 112 RR1 (Bout 2063) - Carson Kuhn (Utah) vs. Jeff Vesta (Kansas)
If the 2nd period had been 1.58 Jeff would have won but it was 2.00. Jeff won the 1st, 6-3 ... lost the 2nd, 2-3 ... and lost the 3rd, 0-6.

Junior 160 RR1 (Bout 2078) - Nick Visicaro (New Jersey) vs. Kyle Detmer (Kansas)
Detmer opens up with a driving takedown for 1. Jersey takes his turn with a takedown but Kyle immediately reverses it.
Kyle then works the trapped arm gut and earns the press for the victory!

Junior 112 RR3 (Bout 2089) - Jeff Vesta (Kansas) vs. Ryak Finch (Arizona)
Vesta would fight to the end but in the end Ryak Finch, the champ in Greco, would be a bit tough.
Vesta loses, 2-8 and 1-8.

So CJ and Hood in the finals. What about Detmer? What school and grade is Hood? I am not familiar with him.
Thanks a bunch for the awesome update!

CJ is in the finals against Dziewa (pronounced Jev a).
Austin Hood is in for 7th (He is a first year cadet from Louisburg, finished 4th at 103 in 4A)
Jeff Vesta is in for 5th
Detmer is going for 3rd. Lost a heartbreaker to get into the finals.
We had several wrestlers on the "bubble" placing 5th in their respective pools. On the outside looking in! Maybe next year...

According to my quick calculation, our Junior Freestyle team has 58 wins and 58 losses at this point. Many of the states here are more restrictive on who they bring to this tournament than we are, which normally puts us at a bit of a disadvantage in team wins & losses. I'm proud our state makes this opportunity available to almost any Kansas wrestler interested in developing their skills and testing their abilities against the best in the nation, and it's particularly gratifying when we can do this and still break even overall!
As Randy said earlier, we are currently in 12th place with an outside shot at making the top 10!

... I can't help but reflect that a few will represent Team Kansas, as a competitor, for the last time.
The Class of 2009 was presented itself admirably!

Junior 98 Finals (Bout 2096) - Joey Moita (California) vs. Austin Hood (Kansas)
Austin is maintaining good position early ... is in on a single leg but can't finish. Again, in on the single, this time Moita goes behind and scores on a gut. Hood reverses at the end. 1-3
Hood trying to pass the elbow ... sprawls and gets the go behind. Austin agains counters for the score. 2-0
The whistle blows for the 3rd. Austin attempts the fireman ... Moita gains the push out ... Moita works for the takedown ... it's over. 0-2
Austin Hood finishes 8th and is an All-American!
