The only reason I even threw the injury name game out there is because Hattabaugh was the top ranked wrestler in his weight in 4A and the All-Class. This was a significant loss for Andale that kept them from reaching their true potential.

While Emporia missing Bryce Dakin for much of season hurt them he was likely not going to place in that beast of a weight class unless the cards fell right. Tommy Williams of STA found this out the hard way going 1-2.

As for the Clay Center heavy weight, Dalton "Chuck Taylor" Converse, having a significant outcome on his team's state title bid I'm hard pressed to say with only a 2-1 record heading into the Newton Tournament. Converse did perform well at Newton up until the injury, but 285 in 4A was no cake walk with two of the top heavies in the state.

And I digress. This is all mute now state is over and a new leaf has turned. Let's look forward to the Kid's State Series, Metro Classic, Senior Classic, NCAA Finals, Senior Nationals, Brute Nationals, ect.

Let me just throw the scenario out there for you: Hattabaugh is healthy wrestles to his potential and wins state this adds roughly 22 points to Andale's team score at state. They now are sitting at 127 total points in the 4A tournament. Hattabaugh taking 1st moves Lucas Cortez of El Dorado to the backside where he meets up with Colton Easterberg of Clay Center in consolation semifinals. Cortez wins and this moves Easterberg to 5th or 6th. Now Clay Center receives something like 124 total team points at the 4A tournament. Then Andale is likely the team is at the top of the Chief's rankings. This is all hypothetically speaking.

This is in no way to diminish what Clay Center has accomplished this season. I just wanted to throw another perspective out there.

What the heck is all that Ricky.
All of a sudden you have some great insight.
Refer to previous posts and you will clearly see that I already discussed Hattabaugh and the fact that if he were not injured we would likely not be having this discussion.
Thanks anyway though for verifying what I already said twice.

And #1 fan what the heck is that. I would give you Andale over Goddard with Hattabaugh but certainly not "by far".

All three are great teams along with Derby, VC, GC, Emporia, Heights, Lansing, Abilene, Andover Central, Norton, etc. prove one thing for sure as Pigorsch said, it is nice that we do have such a competitive field in Kansas that we all can and should be proud of.

We had a lot of significant guys out through various parts of the season, and being able to fill in those spots and still be successful is what makes a great team. I would be willing to say that most teams at some point during the season were not at full strength. There are many "what ifs" we can look at, and to be honest the rankings are great, but they are strictly opinions based off of performances. Proving it is where it counts. I believe Andale with Hattabaugh would have been a better team, and then you could say that Clay Center would have scored more points with Converse. Hattabaugh did score 3 points for his team in the tournament. His team ended with 105 so if you deduct the 3 team points he gained his team, without him is at 102. Clay Center scored 129 which is a 27 point difference. Tyler Anderson Scored 2 falls, a major decision, & a decision in the finals which totaled 27 points. Hattabaugh could have likely had the same outcomes in his matches (getting 2 falls and a major would not have been easy at this weight). That would make a tie, but using the "what if" method Dalton Converse is healthy and wins one match for Clay Center it still equals a Clay Center victory. It was a very fun tournament to watch in 4A this year and I encourage anyone who has never been there to attend next year.

Here is a lot of What ifs for you but since we are on the subject I will throw this out there.
Abilene What ifs.
Kane Kelly hurt in Football not able to wrestle possible state points
Jordan Ward hurt at Regionals could have made a run at the top six at 160.

Colby What ifs.
Dryden Baumfalk 125 Returning State Qualifier out for the season.
Andrew Flanagin 171 2 and 2 at last years state tournament injured for the Season

Scott City what ifs...
Dylan Stucky 140 injured two weeks before regionals out for the season.

There is probably more than this.

Bottom Line all these what ifs could have added points for some teams, Subtracted points for others, or could have been the same. To win Team titles it takes a good team and luck.

So I wouldn't take anything away from a State Championship team finishing on top is well deserved by all and should be commended.

Good post. Every team has plenty of what ifs. Here are Andale's:
Hattabaugh healthy
125 loses in OT in the semis
140 loses a match that was 0-0 going into the 3rd period on backside
145 loses in OT on backside to a Clay Center kid
130 loses in OT on backside
119 loses in OT on backside

Every team will have a similar list, so it all boils down to staying healthy and winning those close matches.

X,

Quite honestly I didn't bother to read your post because it would have taken an hour and all I would have gotten out of it is "I'm mad Goddard isn't ranked higher".

weak....

If you are not going to "bother to read" the posts, then you sure as heck don't have any business responding.

weak....

Additionally, I was never mad and if you would have "bothered to read" the posts, you would have seen that. I sure don't see you making asinine comments like that to Chief. He says Clay Center is better and I say Goddard is better and we are engaged in an interesting and entertaining debate about it. You can think whoever you want is best and so can anyone else.

weak....

Also, I have seen alot of a lot longer posts than mine by other people who I won't name and I don't see you making comments about that. It is the nature of the comment that dictates the length of the response. You are just mad because I pointed out that you repeated what I already said obviously. That is why you submitted an asinine weak comment. I pointed that out because your comment made it sound like I was so caught up in Goddard and Clay Center that I gave no consideration to other great teams and the whole coulda/woulda/shoulda thing whereas I was very careful to give credit to all teams and specifically point out the whole coulda/woulda/shoulda thing.

But thanks for the constructive criticism anyway and have a great day!

And go ahead and chunk some mud as that is what I expect and probably deserve. And I won't even get mad or hold it against you. And have a great day!

Moeder stays at 130 for AC. State tournament weight is the number one rule.

For what it's worth -- at 160 in 6A, Washburn Rural's Dalton Stanley has a head-to-head win over Hunter Jameson at regionals. Jameson won a tight match to make the state finals, while Stanley lost to Wright-Conklin on the other side of the bracket. Stanley pinned his way through to 3rd place after that match.

I did see that, great tournament! What happened to Zach in HS? He didn't qualify for state?
