The event falls on Easter weekend this year so the dates are Thursday March 28th, Friday March 29th and Saturday March 30th. It is held at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This is one of the nation’s elite team events with top notch competition guaranteed. Our middle school, high school and girl’s teams also attend this event.

The qualifying tournament will set the teams with the 1st place finisher being on Team 1, second place finisher on Team 2 and so on. We will take 6 teams plus alternates. Alternates will be chosen starting with the 7th place finisher in each weight. If the 7th placer doesn’t want to go, then we will ask the 8th placer and then down the line. Every year there are changes to the teams because of injury, etc. If a wrestler who finished above you at the qualifying tournament can’t go, you automatically move up one spot. In other words, if you finished fourth and the second place wrestler drops out, you move to third team and the third place finisher moves to second team. The placers below you all move up one spot and the 7th place finisher goes to Team 6 and the 8th place finisher then has the option of going as an alternate. I’ll keep everyone up to date with the changes as they happen.

We plan to meet at The Hotel Topeka (formerly Topeka Expo Center) 1717 SW Topeka Blvd – between 9-11 am to pass out gear and load up on the buses for the trip to Council Bluffs. We will leave Topeka by noon in order to arrive and get checked in to our hotel before weigh-in. Weigh-ins start at 4pm. All wrestlers must weigh in on Thursday – there is no Friday weigh-in. It is a one-time weigh in so once you make weight, you are done. Technically we don’t have to weigh in as a team, but I want us to do so. Once the coaches for each team have been decided upon, we will need a couple from each of the 6 teams to be at the Mid America Center to help get the teams together and weigh in.

I understand this location is not convenient for everyone. If it is out of your way to come to Topeka first, make sure you are at the Mid America Center in time for weigh in. I will give your wrestler their gear at the hotel in Iowa after the weigh in.

We will have chartered buses for the wrestlers to ride on. Depending on how many alternates we have, there may be one van needed.

After the qualifying tournament, we will be sending an email with the singlet designs in order for singlet voting to begin. Team 1 will vote first and then once they have selected (by majority) their singlet, Team 2 will vote for one of the remaining 5 singlets and so on down the line.

The wrestlers will be staying at the same hotels as last year – Best Western Plus at 2510 Abbott Plaza 402-505-4900 and Candlewood Suites at 2601 Abbott Plaza 402-342-2500. These are right across the street from each other. The high school and girls teams will be staying at these hotels also. As a result, the parents block of rooms is smaller than in year’s past at these two hotels. We also have a block set up at the nearby Holiday Inn Express 712-847-0777.

The event schedule is as follows
Address of Venue
1 Arena Way, Council Bluffs, IA 51501
Event Dates and times
March 28th Thursday- Weigh-ins from 4:00pm to 8:30 pm at a designated building. (main arena, Expo Hall or Ball room). More info will be sent to team leaders prior to the event with a map and instructions.
Teams do not have to weigh in together.
March 29th Friday - Doors open at 6:30am and wrestling begins at 8:00am - 5:30pm approximate.
(We will wrestle in pools to determine the bracketing for Sunday)

March 29th Saturday- Doors open at 6:30am and wrestling begins at 8:00am - 2:30pm approximate.
(Championship brackets will be wrestled to completion) We are usually done with awards and all brackets by 3:00pm. The airport is 15 mins from venue. Plan accordingly.

Food and water provided as follows. After weigh in Thursday night, the Elementary and girl’s wrestlers will have pizza back at the Best Western and the Middle School wrestlers go out to eat. Friday and Saturday mornings, the hotel makes a good breakfast. On both Friday and Saturday, I’ll have a trailer in the Mid America parking lot with sandwiches, snacks, etc, water for the wrestlers and coaches. Friday night at the Candlewood hotel, we will have a hamburger cookout for all wrestlers and parents.
As always, we will need some help from parents to make this go smoothly. Here is what we need.
-6 or 8 people to help hand out the gear in Topeka
-3 or 4 people to help make sandwiches in the trailer – Friday and Saturday starting at approx. 9:30am
-4 or 5 people to help cook hamburgers Friday night
-4 or 5 people to help organize and serve the at the Friday night hamburger feed.
-2 chaparones to ride the bus from Topeka to the Hotel

Please email me if you are willing to help. Thank you in advance.

The parents of Team 1 wrestlers have been emailed asking for their singlet vote - deadline is this Friday 3/8

Once Team 1 has chosen their singlet we will email Team 2 parents and they will choose from the remaining 5 singlets
