For those that don't know we fielded a full Gold team and an all but 1 spot (189) on the Silver team. Both teams look good. They did get out of Kansas this morning (6/21) and will be arriving about 7:00 Kansas Time at Greeley. They plan to check into the hotel at the Fairfield Inn in Greeley (ph# 970-339-5030) and then get a work out in tonight and weigh in tomorrow and start wrestling tomorrow night. I have relayed to Coach Peterman via the Altman's and Coach Erickson's wife that I will be glad to post all of the results as soon as they come in. If someone else gets them and posts them that is great too. I believe our kids will do great and represent our state well. Go Kansas!

Looking forward to the updates! I know that the boys all arrived safely, had a good workout last night and fortunately for some, got rid of a few extra pounds.

Kansas lost to Pennsylvania 36-24, don't have any details of the individuals. Kansas is dualing Texas right now. They will then get a 2 hour break.

Mike,
There is no Silver team for Greco. Kansas has only one team for Greco. The Silver team will be competing in Freestyle. The guys started wrestling Wyoming at 6:00 pm. They should be done with them and then they wrestle Wisconsin tonight and Oregon and MN Purple in the morning.

Just heard from Nate, they also beat Wisconsin tonight, pretty bad, he pulled a groin during one of his several 5 point throws on the evening and they don't know if he will be able to continue or not, have to wait until tomorrow to see. He said he is going to try and wrestle but the coaches and trainer said that they are going to wait and see, they don't want him injuring or hurting himself if he don't have to. Keep him in prayer tonight, he usually heals up pretty fast and is a little whiny at times, kind of like his ol man. Will post more of the scores as I get information. Right now they are 3-1 with 3 strong wins.

I maybe trying to figure too much out w/o enough information, however, it looks like Ks will finish with four wins (TX, WY, WI and hopefully OR) and two loses (PA, MIN). It looks clear that PA is going to come out of this pool as the number one seed. KS should come out as the number two seed. They should beat Oregon in the last round. If so they would be 4-2. Texas probably will finish 4-2 with loses to PA and KS so KS would win by criteria. MN can only finish 4-2 if they beat PA (which won't happen). It looks like MN losing to TX on criteria is going to knock them out of the pool and help KS. Go Texas!!! Or I could be wrong and none of this will come about.

Way to go Cadets. Do we know who is in their pool? (I believe they divide the top 8 into 2 pools - red & blue). Oklahoma, Kansas, ?, ?. Mike Elliott - looks like Scott is holding his own. What is he saying?

I was lost a few duals ago. I thought that it was double elimination. I am totally confused.

Tracey, in the first pool they wrestled everyone, then the top 2 teams went to the finals brackets. From there most of the remainder went to the consolation finals. I am not sure how it goes, but I think that on the championship side there is something different. Someone else knowing more than me about the process can chime in.

They take the top two teams out of each pool. In pool D the top two teams were PA and KS. These two teams advance to the "championship pool" along w/ the top two teams from the other pools. Thus, 8 teams go to the championship pool (2 each from pool a, b, c & d). These 8 teams are then placed into a red pool and a blue pool. They then do a round robin wherein everyone in the pool wrestles each other. Once that is done we will know the 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place and 4th place from the blue pool and the red pool. Then 1st place from red pool will wrestle 1st place from blue pool for the greco championship. 2nd place from red will wrestle 2nd place from blue for 3rd. 3rds will wrestle for 5th. 4th in the pool will wrestle for 7th. You could go 0-3 in the red championship pool and that would put you in 4th in your pool. You would then go for 7/8. If a team didn't make it to the championship pool (i.e. not one of the top 8) then they take the top 16 of the teams remaining and place them into a single elimination bracket. This is called the consolation bracket. If you lose here you are done. One team will come out the consolation champion. It is a good way to keep the teams not in the top 8 wrestling. At schoolboy duals the kids failed to make the championship pool in either style but reached the finals of the consolation bracket in both styles (winning the greco)

Still waiting like everyone else, I know that matches for 1-4 is placed but nothing else. Anyone heard anything from anyone, I have made the phone calls and left messages but nothing in response.

The boys were really busy today and didn't get to call very much if hardly at all. They are ready to make weight tomorrow. Nathan did wrestle injured today and will weigh in tomorrow but his coaches and doctors said that he will likely only go out if there is no show on the other team and that way he can get team points. Still appreciate the prayers and thoughts on that one. I don't know about any other potential injuries on the team. Freestyle starts tomorrow and our young men have another great chance to do well. Good night and remember.....

We arrived tonight in time to watch the dual for 7th. The boys are doing well and are ready for tomorrow. I brought my computer and the hotel has free wireless internet so I can send stuff faster hopefully. I took a picture of the team with their placque and medals and will email it you Furches. Can you get it on the site? I will also email it to Mr. Juby and hopefully we can get some pictures on quickly. Coach Peterman just said it is time to go to bed so I better be obediant. Talk to you guys in the am.

I heard the Silver team has a ton of openings. Serveral of the kids moved to the Gold team, but I don't know why.

I also heard Matt was wrestling 119 on the Silver Team even though he made 112 and that left them open at 112??

Thanks "SIX" although I don't know you by that.
Matt wrestled a couple of matches at 19 in GR also. Did he make 12 in FS? We're they given an allowance? I think he was concerned he could make 12 again. Thought Fisher was going to wrestle 12 for them as he was closest to making it.
Pretty hard on the Ole man, I believe it's the first time Matt's been away like this and we haven't been close to the action and trying to decipher the brackets & ask questions about them. Learning experiance for all. Hope their having the time of their life, know their gaining valuable experiance. Thanks again, Dan

!HEY JENNI!,

if you want to save time on the way home from Greely; here are the directions:

you bacially are taking US-34 all the way to Haigler NE, then KS 27 south to Goodland, then I-70 east until your home.

take US-34 east from Greeley, it will take you to I-76.
Take I-76 to exit #92 (last Brush Colorado exit)

Get back on East US-34 to Haigler NE.
turn south on KS 27, to US-36, turn east on US-36 to Wheeler, then back south on KS-27 to Goodland, take I-70 back to Wichita.

this will save you at least hour and half driving time, or more if you dont go back to Denver to hit I-70.

its about 2.5 hours to Sainty from Greeley.
its about 5-5.5 hours to Wichita from Sainty.

if you pass though, stop and say hello, i'm at 505 S. Scott.

Goodluck,to Jared, and say hello to Gabe for me! and keep us informed whenever possible.

GO TEAM KANSAS!

i think Kansas Gold team is pretty solid, lot of talent as i witnessed tuesday and wedsnesday in greco action.

the silver team should compete well also. although one team member decided not to wrestle freestyle at the 11th hour for unknown resons. leaving another open spot on the silver team. hopefully things will workout for him.

team Kansas was in every single Greco dual they competed in, couple of calls and key matches could have gone either way, unfortunately the calls didnt go our way. all the duals they lost were very close.

i think team Kansas will do very well, of course, it depends what kind of pool they are placed in and the draws they have, hopefully we'll have better luck and good luck.

i know a couple of the guys are nursing some injuries, tweaked groins, sore shoulders, etc.. hopefully they'll be close to 100% the rest of this week, kick some butt, and bring home a team medal!

..GO TEAM KANSAS!..

Ok here is what I have so far. KS Gold just took a butt wooping from PA around 46-23. It was painful. More details later. KS Silver lost all 3 rounds this pm. We are on a break now, I boys are going to eat but I am choosing to spend my time with you all --that should be y'all back home. We go back at 6pm and hopefully it should be better. Coach Peterman is supposed to get me the detailed sheets but it won't be until after dinner now and it will probably be on intermat by then. No one is hurt --newly,that I know of. Furches didn't wrestle-he is still hurt, but is getting around fine, so not to worry. People are emailing me right ands left. I'll be back.

I just got home from doing a funeral so any info is appreicated. I have corrected some of the earlier posts and don't even know if Nathan is wrestling, any info would be appreciated here as well, I know he was hurting with the groin pull, possible hernia. I have also sent the one photo I have to my web master and asked him to put a rush on getting it up, will let you know when I know something.

ok, good intentions are not getting me anywhere. I have the pictures in my computer in a folder, but everytime I go to email them, the file is too big. Is there an easier way or do we just have to wait. I am a patient woman but I cannot email each one seperately. Help me out guys.

Ms Jenni, the easiest way is to go to Wal-Mart, get them developed and then mail them to us. Otherwise you might be able to send the folder as an attachment via zip file. If you can't do this you might be able to get one of the computer savy guys or gals to reduce the size of the photo. It is a little hard to explain so that is why we may have to wait until tomorrow. I appreciate all you are doing, and again, just being there for the boys, is a relief to many of us, certainly me. Ms. Jenni will become Nathan's Momma Jenni away from home so feel free to whoop him if he needs it, love and tenderness is optional. Going to eat and to church, can't wait to get back in and see how the team is doing.

Ms. Jenni,

There is a way to e-mail large files for free (up to 50 megs). Go to the website http://www.upload.com, create an account, and send them through that website. The recipient receives an e-mail which gives instructions on how to download the file. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any problems.

One photo is up on my web site. I can have more added to the description and would love to have everybody's name and place in the photo, maybe if someone has everyone's name and order as well as their records just like some of the information on there now for Donnie and Nathan. Two links, first description of the photo, 2nd the photo itself. I have also emailed my webmaster and asked him to reduce the size of the photo for obvious reasons. I tried putting the photo on this page but was too large. Juby or any others, feel free to lift the photo and use it on the usawks site here. There may be some time down where my webmaster is readjusting the size of the photo's keep trying though.

Ks Gold Beat Oregan and New Mexico by a large margin. Ks silver continues to wrestle well but not come out with the win. Silver wrestled WI and MN. Both tough teams. I'll let Furches pull the results from Intermat. He is much better than I am. I also looked at Nathan's injury. It does appear to be a hernia not agroin pull. I am going to try some taping manuevers to see if it feels better. He did wrestle in the Oregan dual and he teched the kid and did ok, physically.

Maggie-Matt says, "hi mom" and he liked his hug.

I am going to try to do the big download and if it works, I will do more pics tomorrow.

Once again, the boys are doing great and wrestling hard. Their behavior is wonderful. Everyone at home should be very proud.

The wrestler who decided to go home made the decison on his own and was not in any trouble. He just chose not to go on into FS. No Story here.

Note from Coach Peterman--Please note that 3 wrestlers from Greco went undefeated---Furches, Altman and Ely. Congrats to them. He is going to help me compile some other points of interest as we go along here.

Good Night.

Today KS Gold goes up against California first then most likely NE and then MO. These will be battles but they are winable. KS Silver has PA Pounders and as you know they pounded the KS Gold yesterday.

Good Luck to the boys today. They have already left. MO will be at 12:30, we think.

GO CADETS!!!!!!!!

Ks Gold beat California and Nebraska. We go against MO at 12:30pm mountain time. This is when we need you guys back home. If we beat MO we go to the winners rounds tomorrow, if we lose we go to the cons. finals and we can't place there. We are tied with MO right now. This is a tall order but we can win it. Praying should start now. I'll let you know as soon as I can. The boys really rallied this am and if we can get the momentum going.....who knows.

Talk to you soon. Furches, I left you a phone mail. I'm telling Nate to go for it!!!!!! Now I better go.

Ms. Jenni

Results to keep from going back and forth are here on this page now that it has jumped over. Includes up to current and postings for round 5 for the Gold team. Got your message Jenni, was in a dinner meeting and left the phone in the car. Tell Nathan it is Missouri and Justin Forrest, it is all he will need to overcome the pain. I have his Dr. appointment for Monday Morning but now is the time to suck it up for his team and his state. GO KANSAS

Score against MO 15-17 @ 135 Kansas Down. Nathan did wrestle and tech Forrest, a big grudge match for us. Nathan is likely out the rest of the tournament though, our boys have sucked it up for our state, we can all be proud of them.

Kansas Gold looses 37 - 29 to Missouri. They move on to the consolation bracket and are out of the championship bout. It is now down to single elimination. Will post more results as I get them. Thanks so much to Ms Jenni for all of her help today.

Geeze is Pennsylvania stacked or what? They won this last year too and here they are again with 2 teams in the championship...and another thing that boggles me...is shumate's weight tougher than nails or what...I mean this is a national runner-up from last year and I see him losing way more than I thought he would...

Hey Butt-Head what did people do before they invented TV?

Well, we are done. We beat Iowa and then went on to hold Indiana until the last. We lost all of the matches from 160 on. This was a big switch for us but the boys were really worn out. They are off to the showers and on to the food. We'll be heading home in the am. We do have some injuries but nothing serious and don't want to go into it on the web. Thanks for all your support KS. The teams really did doyou proud.

Ms. Jenni

Go Cadets! Another strong showing at the Cadet Duals. I coached this team for the first 4 years of the cadet Duals existance and this was the first year I did not attend. I sure did miss being there, but the coaches called me and kept me updated everyday.

Kansas once again proved that we are for sure one of the top Cadet Greco Roman teams in the country placing top 8 every year. Great job Kansas! Now onto Fargo to bring home the "STOP SIGNS" baby! Oh yeah!

Guys-

Great job!! You all impressed me

I do want to give one piece of advice though (I think this would have made the results even better):
Be confident in your technique and yourselves. In a few of the matches I did manage to catch I saw some opportunities that we should have risked (well, not really risked, more of seized). Remember guys, it's not folkstyle; you will not be penalized (points against) for risking the attack.

I know you all have the ability (or you wouldn't be on the team) and the technique (we have the best coaches) now use it to you fullest in Fargo and do what Coach Fergola said (he knows a little

Again, amazing job; you all should be proud: wrestlers for the job well done and their parents for being the parents of their well trained sons!!

Glad to be back in Kansas!

Your boys battled like true Southwind Warriors. We had some tough draws and still was able to place in Greco and come down to the wire with Missouri in Freestyle. We suffered in the Par Terre position with some of our wrestlers lacking in greco/freestyle experience. I was very proud of everyone and expect big things from all of the young men that participated. We had a few wrestlers that were just outstanding and some that took some lumps and just kept battling back. I was a little disappointed because I think we could have done better but I had and still have high expectations of this group they have some talent but have a hard time focussing on the task at hand. I think if they train hard for the next few weeks we will be bringing back more stop signs then a driver on his way to work would like to encounter. So train hard, do the work and enjoy the journey. For some will win and some will lose but becoming a Southwind Warrior will be deep in your soul Forever.

Congratulations gentlemen I am very, very proud of all of you.

Coach Peterman

I am very busy right now with paperwork from the duals and substituting teaching summer school but plan to put down all the thanks to those who helped this Kansas Team succeed in a later post. So get ready to see your name and the much appreciation and respect I have for you and plan to make public so others can appreciate and respect all you did for these young men and the state of Kansas.

Coach Peterman

Curious why Ely at 98 would not have been All-tournament? I cannot see from the results where he lost a match. I am not sure of the parameters, but it looks like he had a heck of a week.

Congrats to all the kids that competed!!!!

Twister:

Ely did have a good tournament. Clark (IL) had a better one.
Ely
3(Tech Falls), 3(Dec: 8-0, 7-1 & 5-1), 1 OT Win(5-4) & 1 FF
Clark
6(Tech Falls), 2(Dec: 10-3 & 5-1) & 2 FF
Even if you take out the FF (Forfiets), Clark's results are better than Ely's.

Under the rules of the cadet dual tournaments the All Star team is selected by adding up the classification points each wrestler earns during the tournament. The kid w/ the highest points at each weight is named the outstanding wrestler for that weight. You get 4 points for a pin, tech fall or forfeit. You get 3 points for a decision. The points you allow are not considered. If I added everything up then under this system Ely would have had 28 points while Clark had 30. It may have some flaws (ex: sitting out a match to allow the second stringer on your team wrestler someone will hurt you) but at least this system has a set criteria for picking the OW.
