Joe Johnston

The most anticipated match of the evening was the title match at 66 kgs that featured UNI graduate and now Iowa State assistant, Dylan Long, against Hawkeye All-American and assistant Cornell coach Joe Johnston.

With about two minutes on the clock in the first period Long countered a Johnston shot taking the action to the mat in a tight front headlock. Long worked the headlock trying to roll it through for exposure when the referee blew a halt to the wrestling for a stalemated position Johnston rolled to his back clearly out from the pressure.

After taking his injury time Johnston rallied in the match and went on to capture the title with a 10-4 victory. Solid handfighting and hard driving shot captured the two point takedowns for Johnston who is on the cusp of being a Season 2 team member for a nationally televised wrestling league.
