Sutherland beat Newell at Liberal in a dual,and also at the Garden City tournament 1/25 & 1/26/8 the wrestled twice Newell winning the first time 11-7, but Sutherland pinning him later in the tournament for Newell to finish 5th and Sutherland placing 4th.
